Relief Canvases

Painting is Sculpture

By stretching my own canvases for some years and pushing the possibilities of different shapes and forms, I learned a lot. I got the idea of building a relief stretcher frame in order to  create a 3D canvas. It is amazing to observe the plays of light and shadows together and its effect on each other. For this series, I challenged myself to add color gradients on various surfaces to allow the lights and shadows effectuate the painting and become its own. As such, the painting pops as a sculpture from the wall.
